Trench Decay: Aim Assist and Auto Shoot

Last updated 2026-10-10Unofficial player article

Separate Aim Assist from Auto Shoot, tune Sensitivity for the actual aiming symptom, and keep firing and display preferences distinct.

Trench Decay lists Aim Assist and Auto Shoot as separate Preferences options. Review them separately: aiming help, firing behavior, and Sensitivity answer different comfort problems, so changing all three at once makes the result harder to judge.

This related gameplay video provides context for the campaign and equipment decisions below.

Start with the aiming problem you actually have

If the crosshair repeatedly travels beyond the target, try reducing Sensitivity first. If movement feels too slow, increase it gradually. That puts a clear input adjustment behind the symptom before you decide how much aiming help you prefer.

I would keep a setup that lets me follow the target comfortably rather than copy another player's exact value. The preference needs to work with your device and weapon handling, not just look like a recommended number.

Change Aim Assist separately from firing

Aim Assist and Auto Shoot appear as distinct options in Preferences. Adjust the aiming option on its own, then consider firing behavior separately. A comfortable aim change can be difficult to notice if you also change when the weapon fires.

Do not assume Aim Assist performs every part of a fight. Positioning, recoil management, and the weapon's own firing pattern still matter. Use the preference to make your input comfortable while keeping the gun's actual role in mind.

Use Auto Shoot for the firing behavior you want

Auto Shoot is its own named preference, not another word for aim help. Review it when firing behavior is the problem you want to address. Preserve the aim setup you already like while deciding whether this separate option fits the way you play.

If several changes make combat feel worse, return to the last setup you found manageable and adjust one option. That is ordinary preference troubleshooting, not a reason to replace every control or assume a particular device must use one exact configuration.

Aiming questions

Are Aim Assist and Auto Shoot the same setting?

No. They are listed separately.

Is there a mandatory Sensitivity value?

Tune it to your input and the symptom you want to solve.

What about a dark screen?

Use the settings guide for Brightness and Gamma instead of treating visibility as an aim setting.
