Trench Decay: Weapon Tier List
Compare the BAR, MG-08, and Aegis by campaign role, magazine handling, and defensive trade-offs in a small editorial weapon tier list.
For a flexible Trench Decay campaign weapon, the M1918 BAR is my first recommendation among the guns compared here. This editorial weapon tier list favors manageable handling and varied encounters over a single damage number; it is not an official ranking or a claim that every weapon has been tested.
This related gameplay video provides context for the campaign and equipment decisions below.
S tier: M1918 BAR for a flexible rifle role
The BAR combines automatic fire with a medium-weight rifle role and a 30-round magazine. It suits both crowds and single targets, making it a straightforward choice when you want one weapon to handle several kinds of encounter.
Its magazine is smaller than those on the heavy machine guns. Use shorter bursts and choose reload moments deliberately instead of treating the BAR as a hundred-round suppressive weapon. I rank that flexibility highly for players who are still adapting to changing campaign routes.
| Tier | Weapon | Reason to choose it | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | M1918 BAR | Medium-weight automatic rifle for varied encounters. | 30 rounds require deliberate reloads. |
| A | MG-08 | 100-round sustained fire from a prepared position. | Heavy handling and slow reload. |
| B | Aegis | Stamina-based blocking for a defensive job. | Temporary shield break and reduced offense. |
A tier: MG-08 when sustained fire matters
The MG-08 trades mobility and reload convenience for a large magazine. Its 100 rounds are appealing when a fight gives you time to hold a position, but the heavy handling and slow reload deserve as much attention as the ammunition count.
Choose it for a sustained-fire job rather than assuming the biggest magazine wins every encounter. A long reload at the wrong moment can leave you with a worse answer than a smaller magazine you can manage safely. This makes it a strong specialist below the BAR in this general campaign ordering.
B tier: Aegis for a different kind of contribution
Aegis is a shield-first melee item, not another rifle. It redirects most incoming damage into stamina use and temporarily breaks when stamina runs out. It also slows movement and lacks the ordinary heavy attack.
Its placement reflects a defensive role rather than poor firearm damage. Use it when blocking is the contribution you intend to make, and leave time for stamina recovery. Do not compare its magazine or shooting reach with guns; compare the space and protection it gives your squad against the offense you give up.
Read the ranking by its scope
This is a small, role-based comparison, not the entire Field Journal ranked from top to bottom. Campaign circumstances, random weapon perks, and the job your squad needs can change the right choice.
Is S tier a promise of the highest DPS?
No. The BAR recommendation emphasizes flexible handling and encounter coverage.
Can a lower-ranked specialist be the right pick?
Yes. Sustained fire or blocking may matter more than general flexibility for your next fight. The best-weapons guide develops those choices.
