Trench Decay: Aegis Shield Guide
Understand Aegis stamina drain, temporary shield breaks, movement and attack limits, and the difference between item and class access.
Use Aegis in Trench Decay for stamina-based blocking. Most incoming damage drains stamina instead of being absorbed without limit; empty stamina temporarily breaks the shield. Bring it for a defensive contribution and keep recovery space in mind before taking sustained pressure.
This related gameplay video provides context for the campaign and equipment decisions below.
Block with a recovery plan
Aegis can make incoming pressure more manageable, but stamina is the resource behind that protection. If you hold the same exposed position until it empties, the shield loses its protection temporarily. Leave yourself an exit before the fight reaches that point.
I would use the shield to support a deliberate defensive position rather than as permission to ignore the surroundings. The useful outcome is giving the squad room to fight or recover while you can still move, not seeing how long you can remain exposed.
| Feature | Player consequence |
|---|---|
| Stamina-based blocking | Plan an exit before the resource empties. |
| Temporary break | Allow recovery instead of expecting continuous protection. |
| Slower movement | Choose a position before pressure arrives. |
| No heavy attack | Pick it for defense rather than conventional melee offense. |
Expect slower movement and a different attack
Aegis slows the player and does not perform a heavy attack. Its shield behavior also does not establish protection against every explosion; explosive barrels are an important exception. Keep those limits in mind around environmental hazards.
The shield is a commitment to a different kind of contribution from carrying another gun or a conventional melee choice. If you mainly want quick offensive movement, a blocking-focused item may feel awkward even when it is useful to somebody holding a squad position.
Separate the item from Defender's issued variant
Aegis has an Entombed In Steel Warbond route, and Defender uses an issued variant. That does not mean every shield purchase and class kit are the same acquisition. Decide whether your goal is the item, the class role, or the bundle's wider contents.
Do not buy a bundle just to solve a role you have not decided to play. First decide whether stamina-based blocking is the contribution you want. Then compare the route available to your current equipment and class plan.
Aegis questions
What happens when stamina runs out?
The shield temporarily breaks and later recovers.
Does it protect against everything?
No. Do not assume explosive hazards are covered by its ordinary blocking.
Is it the same as any other melee item?
No. The melee guide compares its shield-first role with ordinary offense.
