Trench Decay: Engineer Class Guide
Use Engineer's cheaper, tougher structures and faster repairs, then connect its 150-Medal class purchase to building progression.
Engineer is the Trench Decay class for building and maintaining structures. It lowers structure costs, improves their health, and builds or repairs faster. Choose it when fortifications are a real part of your session, rather than expecting the class to act like a healing specialist.

Bring Engineer to a structure-focused session
The class's advantages belong to structures. They matter most when the group intends to build and hold useful defenses, so discuss that job before the session becomes a series of unrelated gunfights. Your contribution is easier to use when the squad understands where it wants to hold.
I would choose Engineer for a defense plan that needs fortifications, and a different support class for a group whose main issue is recovery. Cheaper or tougher structures do not replace healing a teammate who has already gone down.
| Need | Engineer contribution |
|---|---|
| Starting a defense | Lower structure cost and faster building. |
| Holding the position | Improved structure health and faster repairs. |
| Progressing the class | Build structures in sessions that actually use them. |
Build for the position the squad intends to use
Put the building effort behind a real squad position. Spending resources on a place everyone immediately abandons gives the class little opportunity to help. The useful question is where the group intends to fight, rather than how many structures you can place before moving on.
Use the faster building and repair role to maintain the position you actually need. Avoid treating structure quantity as the goal by itself. A smaller useful defense is easier for the team to work around than a large collection that does not support the next encounter.
Make the 150-Medal purchase count
Engineer costs 150 Medals and advances through building structures. If you want to progress the class, choose sessions where that action is part of your plan. Buying it and then avoiding structures leaves both the role and its progression behind.
If you already have another class you enjoy, keep the purchase deliberate. Engineer is a new squad job, not a universal upgrade to every loadout. Save for it when you want to invest your next sessions in fortifications and the team has a reason to use them.
Engineer questions
How does Engineer earn class progress?
By building structures.
Does it replace Medic?
No. Engineer supports fortifications; Medic supports recovery.
Where can I compare the other roles?
The class overview groups each specialization by its actual job.
