Trench Decay: How to Get Cosmetics
Plan a free-play cosmetic goal, follow the individual item or bundle route, and separate appearance spending from equipment priorities.
The Trench Decay developer says cosmetics can be unlocked through free play. Choose the item or set you want, then follow its own acquisition route; that statement does not mean every mask has the same unlock or every bundle is immediately free to claim.
This related gameplay video provides context for the campaign and equipment decisions below.
Choose the appearance goal before the purchase
Decide which part of the character you want to change. A mask, uniform, or wider set is a different collection goal. Keeping one clear target makes it easier to preserve resources instead of spending on several offers you do not intend to use together.
I would keep a class or weapon reserve separate from an optional appearance budget. Cosmetics can be a worthwhile goal without requiring you to delay the equipment that makes your next sessions enjoyable.
| Goal | Useful approach |
|---|---|
| One appearance piece | Follow that item's acquisition route. |
| A themed set | Decide whether the wider bundle contents appeal to you. |
| Free-play progression | Save earned resources toward the chosen goal. |
| Special challenge mask | Use its item-specific requirements. |
Use the item's own route
Free-play access describes the game's overall approach, not one identical requirement for every cosmetic. A named item can belong to a bundle, a store offer, or a particular challenge. Follow the route associated with that item rather than treating a general free-play statement as an instant claim button.
If your goal is a bundle's appearance, consider whether you also want the rest of its contents. Buying a wider set solely to imitate someone else's character can make the purchase less useful to your own collection.
Keep collection progress separate from combat advice
An appearance goal and a combat goal can share the same currency without being the same decision. Save for the piece you like because you want to use it, rather than claiming it must improve a weapon or class merely because it is expensive.
When a cosmetic has a special challenge role, use that item's actual instructions. Do not apply a blanket appearance-only rule to every mask. A collection guide should help you pursue the right item, not overwrite its individual behavior.
