Trench Decay: Medals and Spending
Separate Medals from run dogtags, choose a class or equipment goal, and preserve a useful reserve before optional bundles or crate spending.
Medals are Trench Decay's persistent spending currency for classes, discovered tools, cosmetics, crates, and Warbonds. Keep them separate from the dogtags used during a run, then save toward one purchase that changes the role or equipment you actually want to play.
This related gameplay video provides context for the campaign and equipment decisions below.
Decide what the next purchase should achieve
A class, a weapon, and a cosmetic solve different needs. A class gives you a new squad role; a discovered tool adds equipment; a cosmetic changes the character you want to show. Start with that purpose before browsing every offer your balance could cover.
I would reserve the amount for a useful next purchase rather than spend every Medal as soon as it arrives. A small optional purchase is less attractive when it delays the class or gun you intended to use for your next sessions.
| Purchase type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Class | Change your squad role. |
| Discovered tool | Add equipment you intend to use. |
| Cosmetic | Build the character appearance you want. |
| Warbond | Buy a wider themed equipment and cosmetic set. |
| Crate | Keep optional spending behind the reserve for your main goal. |
Separate run income from the permanent balance
Successful extraction, converted dogtags, Major Order rewards, and Supply Codes are Medal routes. Dogtags also have in-run uses, so spending them before extraction and saving Medals afterward are different decisions.
Treat an unfinished run as potential income rather than a permanent spending balance. Use the amount you actually bring back when choosing the next purchase. This keeps a campaign setback from becoming a budget built around rewards you never received.
Compare a single item with a wider bundle
Warbonds combine equipment and cosmetics. A bundle can serve a broader collection goal, but it is not automatically the cheapest route to the one gun you care about. Compare the intended purchase with the actual offer instead of using the bundle name as your whole decision.
Crates are another possible Medal use. If you have a clear class or tool goal, I would preserve that reserve before optional crate spending. A budget is useful because it protects the next action you want, not because it predicts an outcome from a random offer.
