Trench Decay: Defense Mode and Kit Differences
Review historical Defense variants, distinguish preset class kits from custom Inventory, and prepare around the live session's objective.
Trench Decay's historical Modern Defense and Defense: Re material describes point-based variants and class-specific kits. Use it to understand the mode's design and equipment differences; the archived variant list is not a promise that every option is currently in rotation.
This related gameplay video provides context for the campaign and equipment decisions below.
Separate the historical variants from the live menu
The archive names The Raid, Infection, Hold The Line, and Juggernaut Twins, with points labeled A through E. Those names help explain the older mode structure. Use the live menu for the session that is actually available to enter.
I would treat an archived guide as context when comparing how the mode worked, not as a reason to search endlessly for an option that may no longer appear. A current session's displayed rules decide what you are joining.
| Topic | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Archived variants | The Raid; Infection; Hold The Line; Juggernaut Twins. |
| Historical points | A through E. |
| Modern Defense kit | Class-specific preset. |
| Classic Defense or Offensive | Custom lobby Inventory kit. |
Choose the class-specific kit deliberately
Modern Defense uses class-specific preset kits. Classic Defense and Offensive use custom lobby Inventory kits instead. That difference changes whether your preparation is mainly selecting a role or assembling custom equipment.
Do not copy a custom Offensive kit into a preset-class expectation. For a defense session, decide which squad job you intend to do and understand the kit you are entering with. Recovery, supplies, and fortifications can each contribute without becoming interchangeable roles.
Hold a useful position rather than chasing every target
A point-based defense gives the squad a reason to coordinate around the objective. I would prioritize equipment and support that help the group maintain that position instead of splitting the team into unrelated fights.
Keep that recommendation within the mode you actually enter. An archived variant name does not establish the exact rules of the live session. Read the selected mode once, then build a practical squad plan around its available class kits and objective.
